Dialysis, I agree with most of your comments. The only thing I would add is that I'm not sure that nursing is changing for the better. It seems to me that nursing may be sinking with the health care ship. I just read some troubling stats under another thread on some of the immigrants trying to get into or already here in the U.S. to get paid to practice nursing. I wonder what impact does differing cultures have on nurse bullying? Does it increase the chance of bullying behavior or decrease it because of the frequent language barrier? Does anyone know any data on nurse bullying in other countries?

He got so mad at me that he started THROWING the needle holders with used suture needles still attached at me! He was also throwing other instruments at me.

Handyrn, can you tell me what set this doctor off to do such things? Not that I think there is any excuse for this, but I'm just wondering what could get a doctor so angry. As a patient, I'm the helpless body that these tools are flying over. If he's throwing scalpels, isn't that an assault with a dangerous weapon? Have you heard of anybody getting hurt from these tantrums?

I would call the police and report the incident, because that IS assault and battery with a deadly weapon. I would also file a complaint with the State Board of Medicine regarding this very unprofessional behavior. The Board cannot do anything to discipline a doctor if they get no complaints. The beat thing that nurses can do is to start a paper trail about this guy. It might not help you but will help the next nurses in the long run.

I would also call an attorney and see if you can take any legal action against this clown. JMHO and my NY $0.02.

I compare nurses today to those in the military. They get blamed for things they didn't even do, they get abused by fellow nurses, physicians, patients, family members, etc. I salute all of you on those front lines. You have to love what you do. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to survive.
