Gunfight at the Hospital

I hope all of the hospital staff and other patients were safe!

An armed patient was fatally shot Saturday after he opened the door to his hospital room at the end of a 4 1/2 hour standoff and pointed his gun at police, who opened fire, authorities said.
Johnnie Russell, 58, died of a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
It wasn't clear whether the patient ever fired at the officers, police said, correcting earlier reports. Police also fired tear gas before entering the room and finding the man dead on the floor.
"We can't confirm that he committed suicide. And we can't confirm that he fired a shot first," police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said. "We do know he raised his gun. One of our police officers fired upon him when he did that."

Re: Gunfight at the Hospital

How terribly sad and scary.

I hope the staff there recover from how scary this must have been for them.

This is far too close for comfort.

Re: Gunfight at the Hospital

The police call some such instances "suicide by cop" It looks as if another patient was taken hostage? That must have been totally terrifying for every one there.

Armed Patient Shot in Hospital Standoff

I heard someone talking about a situation where staff called police about an unruly patient. The patient ended up being shot in his room but it is not known if it was suicide. I would like to read more about the story but can't find it here or anywhere else.
