Ellen Duprey will give up a family vacation in Myrtle Beach this week and take a much different kind of trip. She will travel to the Gulf Coast to help survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
Duprey, 58, a registered nurse from Uxbridge, heads to Worcester Friday for three days of training with the American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts.
Next week, the Red Cross will likely send Duprey to provide medical treatment to the sick and injured for about three weeks.
She is one of a growing number of area residents joining aid and rescue work in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, one of the largest relief efforts the U.S. has ever seen.
