Nurses at Finley Hosptial in Dubuque are now on strike. Nurses began picketing in front of the hospital at 6:30 Thursday morning. The three day strike will end Sunday morning. This is the first strike in the hospital's 116-year history.
More than 200 nurses signed up to picket in front of the hospital. But the nurses expect others to join them.
"The community has been with us, very supportive all along the way, says Finley nurse Lisa Flanagan. "We've had other informational pickets and they've rallied up."
The Dubuque hospital warned nurses of possible consequences of a strike. In a letter sent to staff this week, Finley reminds nurses of their "rights" during a work stoppage, including the hospital's legal right to temporarily or permanently replace any striking employee.

Strikes are a difficult and painful decision and my heart and support go to the Finley nurses who chose to stand up for their rights and the quality of care their patients receive.

The hospital is going to permanantly replace employees. What a joke. Dubuque is a small town. They must have a barn full of nurses hidden some where. The last time i looked they dont have a surplus of nurses. As someone who grew up in Iowa, i support these nurses. The town i grew up in you have a choice of one hospital or the other. Needless to say wages are suppressed. I drive 180 miles to work and make double the hourly wage i could make in iowa.
