Thumbs up Family physicians lobby for single payer health care system

http://charlotte.bizjournals.com/alb...05/daily3.html

of Family Physicians has called on Gov. Eliot Spitzer and the state Legislature to create a single payer health care system.
On March 5th, family physicians from across the state gathered in Albany to lobby lawmakers. Their concerns include the fact that nearly 3 million New Yorkers are uninsured and many more are underinsured, while others have insurance that does not cover significant items like medications. Rising costs have a growing number of employers either dropping or reducing coverage. The doctors also complain that dealing with multiple insurance plans, with their different rules, forms, and procedures, wastes an estimated 20 percent to 30 percent of the health care dollar.

Re: Family physicians lobby for single payer health care system

Yeah the 20-30 percent waste is probably from their pocket to hire the extra people to file the extra various claims. Physicians are as much to blame for the current situation with health care as the insurance companies and pharmacetuical companies. The truth is that doctors didn't give a rats butte about underinsured or uninsured people until it started impacting their own pocketbooks. Just look at the number of people they see in their office without insurance, probably a very small percent ,if any, compared to the number of people without insurance.

Those in NY should be careful in what they ask for..... they just may receive it. Considering the way New York state is run (much like most other states), this may not end well.

Re: Family physicians lobby for single payer health care system

I'm sure the docs are tired of writing off care to un/under insured patients. Nurses would be angry too if their pay were docked due to a patient's inability to pay, or if they were paid 50% of normal wages because of medicare reimbursement. I'd love to see NY give it a try. I can watch and see what happens from a safe distance. (Arizona)
