Drug reactions 'kill thousands'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7161196.stm

It sounds like, from reading this article, that patients are having the most problem with over the counter medicines. I think these are often misused by the public. I'm going to start discussing these more with patients.

Re: Drug reactions 'kill thousands'

Sometimes amazed on what people take OTC and don't think to discuss with pharmacist if they are on prescribed medication although usually asked if for yourself and are you on any other meds. Few years ago here in the UK you could buy large amounts of Paracetamol OTC but due to high OD rates on said drug action was taken and restricted to smaller amounts and flagged if you buy more than 2 packs in one transaction. I know you can still shop around and go to many other shops but decline has proven that doing this action has cut down OD's with this drug

Think acetaminophen is of similar compound as paracetamol

Re: Drug reactions 'kill thousands'

Drug reactions are very common to people who are not vigilant or knowledgeable about what they are taking in..In Health care practice the health care professionals should know about the pharmacology of a certain drug. However, We should be responsible for our own health.
