So, could and experience NP og out and open up her own minute clinic, say, in a busy Walmart taking care of minor problems while folks shopped?
Is that what the docs are scared of?

Funny, there is no objection from the AMA about doc-in-the-box clinics, just NP-in-the-box clinics!
If physicians were truly concerned about continuity of care and patient relationships, they would be available to their patients at all hours. It is now 8pm. If I were to suffer a sprain, sudden ear ache, or bad sore throat, my doctor's office would refer me to the ER, at a cost of hundreds of dollars, which my insurance would refuse to pay. I'll take a NP clinic for minor emergencies any day, for myself and my kids. I'm not looking to replace my primary physician, and I doubt that any NP in a clinic would try to convince me to do so.

Actually, my husband has already predicted that major chain pharmacies will staff NP's. They can write the script and then have them filled at the same facility. My husband said this will cut down on emergency room trips, because they will keep the NP staffed all the time. We sit around and think about things like this all the time

"We see lots of minor illnesses like colds, sore throats, and write a lot of prescriptions, typically for viruses,"
What prescriptions would one write for a virus?

The AMA has pretty strong political ties, I wouldn't be surprised if they were "up" to something, like seeing NP's face so much beaurocratic red tape and so many restrictions it is not even worth it for them to have a practice of any kind.
Oh sure...they really care about the patients. I've seen how much most of them care. They care so much they won't even get up to come pronounce one of their patient's dead, especially after business hours. They tell you to roll their old bones over to the ER and let the doctor on call pronounce them.
They care so much they refuse care to people who have no insurance. Yea, of course it's against the law. Oh, sure it is...that is why they have to give another reason for refusing care.
The more I see of doctors the more I dislike them.

I just love NPs, wished there were more working in the hospitals.

NP's in clinics: a great trend in healthcare Wish I could have seen more of them instead of doctors who really weren't interested in seeing you anyway.
