I do not care why this nurse felt he/she should have put a pillow over the patient's face. It should have been removed (or not done in the first place) when it was asked of the nurse. I feel this was abuse and I do not believe this nurse should have been allowed to continue working in this hospital or anywhere else. Mine as well say goodbye to nursing license.
I once had an elderly landlord who, when he found out I was working in a LTC facility, asked if we put pillows over the resident's heads and he was completely serious in his question. Shows how even the most crusty of the elderly are scared as they can be of ending up in those places.

How does this even enter a persons mind? Sick very sick.
I am curious though, it seems like she is only being charged with administrative issues within her license. Why was she not charged criminally and why is she not facing jail time for Assault?
A nurse asked her to remove the pillow twice and she didn't comply. That's grotesque. The dissenting judge's comments also disturb me. She states that the patient didn't complain and wasn't harmed, but that doesn't make it okay. Disgusting.
I applaud the nurse who reported this to her NM. And I applaud the facility for taking the next step. This nurse should be counting her blessings that she wasn't chraged criminally. She should have been.
