So true. Perhaps it is more so in California that attractive young female nurses are asked for by some patients. Yup, mich worse open disapproval of fat then racism.
Since most of us are older, about 2/3 either male or non white patients are usually quickly reassured they will have a competent nurse working to assure safe effectuve therapeutic nursing care according to the needs of the individual patient.
That is why we continue the fight for safe staffine. In our ICU no nurse could (legally) be assigned more than two patients at any tome.
Quality care with time for teaching and reassuring the patient and family goes a long way toward having patients feel comfortable with a nurse who does not match expectations.
It is hard to trust an overly busy nurse who cannot stay to listen or spend the time because their other patients need them more.
