Just a little shameless plug about some media coverage
It was very nice for allnurses.com to get noticed and mentioned by the editor
U.S. News's
Avery Comarow who has been editor of the America's Best Hospitals annual rankings since 1990.
From the
Comarow On Quality Heath Blog post:
'Sister Nurse' Responds to Critics
It's drawn quite a reaction, mostly from other nurses (as well as some 70 comments on
allnurses.com, an online gathering place for the nursing community).
Read the allnurses.com comments
here
On a side note...
In the last paragraph of this blog post, the Nursing Professor (Madsen) who wrote the response, states:
Finally, a real conversation about nursing and nurses and attitudes and real-life conditions.
Finally? Madsen must not have been aware of allnurses.com before? We nurses have been having these in depth conversations online here for years
I really think that the larger media entities need to actually listen to nurses.
I'd really like to see more national news exposure informing the public and politicians of our looming nursing shortage. With the average age of a nurse is 45 years old, the baby boomers are aging and will be putting a huge demand on our health care system at a time where there will be a huge nursing exodus of the aging nursing workforce.
There is a growing interest in the Nursing Profession, but currently there are waiting list in nursing schools across the country, because there is a shortage of nursing educators. (low pay and other issues etc...)
All of these factors and more are all a recipe for a health care crisis, but not many news outlets are covering it in a large scale to get the attention it deserves?
Kudos to Avery Comarow and US News for discussing Nursing and raising the discussion and awareness of nurses issues.
