Good Morning,
I'm here on the east coast & I remember approximately 15 years ago, some of the students from foreign country had difficulties. It was not the knowledge, it was the langauge barrier. One student took the test 4 times before she pass. Back then the waiting time to repeat the test was longer and they were required to take a certain class before repeating the test. Is this the case? I'm glad she didn't quit, because she is a great nurse.

What is going on in this school of nursing? Only just over 21% of the class passed the HESI on the first try. After two trys they are up to 54% and finally after three trys 60 out of 89 (67%) manage to pass it.
Nothing against the students because if only 21% of the graduating class can pass the HESI then something is wrong with the school.

I know no one from Alcorn, but since when does the fact of seeing how well you do on the nclex determine if you are eligible to pass a nursing program. If you have passing marks on your exams and clinical scores are passing, what does it matter you fail a pre-nclex exam. We had to take a similar exam when I was in school but it was for your own assessment on how you have progressed, it had no academic wt what so ever, except you had to take the exam, and looking back I think I flunked mine.

They are talking of the exit-HESI exam here, not the NCLEX exam. Foreign nurses that graduate out of the US do not take the HESI.
NCLEX-RN exam still has less than a 50% pass rate for foreign trained nurses, and usually due to language barriers. I have seen nurses take that exam that could not speak a word of English.

Hi Suzanne,
First time poster, long time listener...
If these nurses couldn't speak a word of English, just how do they expect to WORK in a hospital where EVERYTHING is in English (medication doses, haz-mats, medication doses, doctors orders, medication doses, patient charts, medication doses, etc.)
Oh, did I mention medication doses?

Oh for god sakes people, where is the multicultural sensitivity? As you learned in nursing school we are supposed to be kind and sensitive to people of other cultures, most of which are superior to our own degenerated culture(USA). Its time for all of us to take a step back and look inside ourselves and say "What can we improve" and "how can I make a difference in the world?". Its about taking a caring and compassionate approach and not forcing our cultural system on the third world, after all its mostly our fault these third world countries are poor in the first place, with all the exploitation we hte united states does all the time.

My school requires students to pass an NCLEX predictor test through ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute) in order to graduate. They are the same company that administers the TEAS entrance exam. ATI actually has tests available that our school uses throughout our education here. There was one for Nursing Fundamentals, one for Pharm, and one for Med/Surg I (IIRC). Our school gives us ATI books, DVDs, and access to take practice exams on our own time.
Our first graduating class just finished in April and everyone passed the ATI predictor.
Also, we have an instructor from the Phillipines who has a business bringing foreign nurses to the U.S.A. She also has an NCLEX prep class for which she charges $2500. He 1st time pass rate is 94%. 80% pass with the minimum set of questions.
Our school is paying her to teach her NCLEX prep to each graduating class at no additional cost to the students. It's 7 days straight, 12 hrs per day. This free NCLEX prep class is optional to the students and there's a question whether it'll be available to students after the class graduating in August.

Good Morning,
The key word is, PRE or P R E P class. Through college I wasn't much of a test taker. I could write excellent papers, explain & sometime teach the material. Test taking was my weakness, so I just took test taking classes to build my skill. Oh, I pass the NCLEX the 1st time.

Good Morning Sofy,
Go to the bookstore or library & get the NCLEX or Mosby (I'm not sure what's on the market) [u]questionaire study guide. In NCLEX the questions were divided into the nursing courses (ex. fundamental, med/sug, peds, OB ...) that was in our curriculum. Do the questions. Take about 30 minutes (4 X/wk ) & do 30 questions. If 30 minutes is too long for you, take about 20 minutes & do 20 questions.
Don't get discourage, but when you first start off, you may not get half the question correct. The ones that are incorrect, go to the back of the book & read the rationale. After about a month or sooner, you will start getting 80-90% of the questions correct. You will also see your test scores become higher. You will become more relax & confidence in test taking.
I'm not sure where you are as a student, how close or how far you are before sitting for NCLEX. This method will assist with NCLEX. DO QUESTIONS, DO QUESTIONS, DO QUESTIONS. I was even told some of these questions are on the NCLEX. I didn't start doing this until my last semester before sitting the exam (NCLEX). However, we were told in our freshman year, this is how to start preparing for NCLEX. Hey 30 minutes, 4X / wks & DON'T FORGET TO READ THE RATIONALE ON THE INCORRECT RESPONSES, BRING SUCCESS, CONFIDENCE & HIGHER TEST SCORES. GOOD LUCK
