Now who still thinks socialized medicine is a good deal for America?

When I went to Nova Scotia last week they were closing ER's for a week in turn because they don't have the nursing staff to keep them open. Sounds like all 1200 new grads should head east.

We need to do something to create a healthcare system in the United States. I think the first step is dialog.

For profit hospital corporations have beed buying several hospitals in a town and closing some. This leaves less emergency rooms and fewer beds for the entire community. This has been going on for at least 15 years.

It is happening in many parts of the country.

The problem nurses are having in Canada is lack of full-time employment being offered and job security.

Yes, it is not easy to get full time at many hospitals. I know of people who are waiting for 2-3 years for f/t, in certain areas of Canada. I think that there are too many nurses in some areas and not enough in other areas. Nothing is simple about the nursing shortage here in Canada.

Ask any Canadian if he or she would trade the Canadian system for our system.

The Calgary Health Region has promised nursing graduates of UofC and Mount Royal College permanent full-time positions within the CHR. I can't wait to see if that really happens!

I live in Michigan and a lot of nurses from Canada drive down. Now all they do is brag about Canada this and Canada that. So my question to them was why do you work in the states then?
I never recieved and answer.

Because there a jobs for nurses, why else would they be there? BTW did it ever occur to you that Canadians may actually feel patriotism towards their country and take pride in being Canadian? Glad I don't have a lousy attitute towards my American co-workers who take pride in their country and express their patriotism.
