Hello, I have been a RN 25 years, did Hospice, homecare, and hospital. Currently in the hospital as staff nurse. Most of my career spent in hospital floor nursing. It is ugly there and I want out. I am still young but they are killing us not to mention how nurses treat each other. I am burned out!

Find your way

Listen to yourself. If you are burnt out, find another career path, be it in nursing or elsewhere. There are so many roads in nursing to pick from. Look for a job that is not stressfull, high crisis area & not requiring overtime. Take a vacation and think of all the possibilities. It really can make a difference to see the glass half full versus half empty. Do you have any ideas at this point? Let us know. What about working for the state as a community nurse?

I agree with the above post. May I ask what part of the country you live in?

Good Luck!

Hello Mary Austin.
I will make this short Mary. It sure sounds like you are hurting. Sometimes it is in adversity that we find the courage to change or at least move in that direction.
I have been there and as you may very well know there are many more that have felt simular frustrations.
It wasnt until I found something else to set my dreams on that I found the drive to make some changes in my life so I could move toward a better place.
I hope and truly believe that you will too. Follow your heart and keep looking for what inspires you..what your passions are and in that you will find the drive to locate a vehical to get you there.
I have and if I can anyone can.
If interested in learning more about who and where I am just chck my profile and the links provided.
All the best to you and yours. You will find your passion and you deserve all the best that your dreams long for.

It surely is ugly in the hospitals. That why I won't work there.
I know it's extremely hard to get out of nursing. How about a phone triage job or trying doctor's office or clinic nursing?

Mary,
I felt the same way many years ago, (was pedi transplant nurse, and we'd just lost one of our kids that had become like mine). I hated nursing, and hated everything about hospitals!
I left, and piddled around doing all kinds of jobs, but within three years I was back to looking for jobs that weren't QUITE nursing, but were medically related.
Decided I was tired of being broke, but I had let my license lapse (I NEVER wanted to go back so why would I renew license). I had a hellva time getting my license reinstated, and cost LOTS.
So whatever you do. KEEP that license UP TO DATE, and to make sure you don't get too far behind, work agency once in awhile even if it gets on your nerves!
TRUST ME, YOU DON"T want to find yourself in the same shoes I was in!!

Just out of curiosity, what does it take to reinstate a license, and why would it cost a lot? What's involved?
