Hi, I'm here after listening to a fellow student reference the forums on allnurses.com as great information/pulse of nursing thought. I've been in nursing forever - 25 years, 39 in health care - nursing assistant, ward clerk first - and am finally completing my BSN. I'm tired of watching energetic, idealistic young nurses burn out within 6 months changing into task oriented within the constraints of their shift and hope I can figure some things out about why this is. I think primarily it's that the hospital system and nursing are at odds and I'd like to delineate the specifics so change can happen. I've seen nurses try to change the system since the beginning of time but so far I don't see the change in the every day life of the bedside nurse.
