Are there other moms going to LPN school ?

Hi everyone. I'm basically looking to s/w other moms / women in their late 30's that are either considering or already attending LPN classes. It's been so long since I've held a fulltime job or attended school. I need some kind of boost from you to get me psyched !!!
Hope to hear from u soon.

Hi! I am 36, will be 37 soon, with a 4yo and starting LPN clinicals in August. I have been attending pre-reqs part time for a couple of years now while I work full time. I will be resigning my job (if I dont get laid off before then) in late July. Scary, I haven't not worked since I was 16. But I am so excited too!

Are you starting full time in clinicals?? What scares you so much? Thing you have to keep in mind is you will find a way to make this work. You and your family will benefit in the end.

I was a stay at home until my youngest entered first grade. I went and did my LPN full time. It was rough the first month getting back into the swing of being at school again. But the boys were my physical assessment models, and really good about having their bodies measured, listened to and palpated!

I think it was good for them to see Mum study along side them. It also showed them that people change all their lives and don't do the same job forever. I remember how proud of me they were the first time I wore my uniform for labs.

It was a hard four semesters but it went by quickly. You find out who your real friends are when you need a hand for anything.

I was one of the oldest in my class. It was only noticeable the first couple of weeks. Once the class started loosing people, they didn't care how old I was, only that I was helpful with assignments and reliable.

Do it full time. The student loans can be paid back after you get a job. Why stretch it out over years, four semesters back to back were 13 months.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the boost!

Fiona, thanx so much. My husband told me the same thing... to do the schooling full time. The school also has evening classes that can be spread out over 17 mths. 1/2 semester eve. classes and 1/2 day. Only problem with this is that it's not continuous classes. There's a few months break in-btween and I'd be afraid to lose all that I tried so hard to memorize.
Anyhow, I believe I'm heading towards full-time. It's an 11 mth program.
Thanks again.
Hope to hear frm u again.
Lorenna

Hi Lori ... thanx

Hi Lori.
Thanx so much for yr reply.
Actually, I'm starting my prep course Jan 4. Ends March 8.
Prep course is designed to review for LPN school entrance exam. The school I'm planning on attending highly recommends taking this course, especially if someone hasn't been in school for quite a while. That would be me !
I went to F.I.T. in NYC ( fashion illust ), but, after 3 yrs I became bored and realized that it's not what u know it's who. I've loved anything to do w/ medical field for some time now, but, never felt the urge to pursue.
Now, I'm kind of nervous because I wasn't an extraordinary studnet in h.s., but, I did OK.
I know that school I want to attend wants h.s. transcript upon passing and an interview. Hope all goes well. As I said before... it's been a long time.

I know my family will benefit. They're already so proud and I haven't even started !
Once again, thanks for yr reply. Means alot.
Hope to hear from u soon.

Bye...
Lorenna (by the way: I'm 38 w/ 2 elem. age boys)

I am 36, married with 2 children... a 7 year old and an 8 year old. The program I attend does not have a part time option, but I am ok with that...I just want to hurry up and finish. I have just finished my first semester with one more semester + mini summer session to go...I will graduate Mid July. Good Luck and just keep reminding yourself it is only a short period of time until you finish.

Hi lorenna,
I wish you luck!!! I am a single mom and work full time and am buying a house. I recently went back to school taking all my pre-reqs and if all goes well i will be in nursing school SEp 2006. I dont know how i am going to do it cuz it is full time, dont know where i would work, I ve been at my job for 4yrs and make ok money, and to give it up is kind of scary. So if i can somehow make it work so can you. I know my 2 boys will be proud of me, and i am thinking of our future.

Welcome! I am the mother of 4 children. My littlest one is only 2 years old. The other 3 are in school all day. I am 6 months into the part-time LPN program. I will graduate in 2006. I love it! So glad you could join us!
