Starting LPN school in August

Hello everyone! I'm so glad I found this forum. There seem to be a lot of great people here.

Quick intro: I'm a 40 year-old woman starting LPN school in August. It's a 2-year state-run program. I'm doing a mid-life career change, having worked office jobs my entire adult life. I've always wanted a job in the medical field, though, since a very early age.

I'll be holding down a full-time job while I go to school in the evenings 4 nights a week. It's gonna be tough but I'm trying not to get spooked!!!

Anyway, I look forward to connecting with other students and practicing nurses.

Have a great day everyone!

Re: Starting LPN school in August

Welcome! I am doing the exact same thing you are at the age of 38. After having worked in a business office environment and wanting to be in the medical field, I am starting an LPN program in late June. It will also be four nights a week and I am continuing to work my full-time job. I have confidence in us...we can do it!!!!

Hi Flwoobie! It's good to know there are other women in my same circumstances doing this. I'm a little apprehensive my classmates will all be 18 year old kids. It would be nice to have other 'grown ups' to hook up with.

So congratulations to us! I look forward to cheering each other on through this process.

Best reagards,
moonbean

Re: Starting LPN school in August

I'm not sure of the ages in my class yet. I assume I will find out more once we go to orientation, which should be about two weeks before classes start. Think of this way...you will become the natural leader of the class since you will be bringing in a great deal of life experience and won't be hesitant to question and take chances!

We definitey need to keep in touch as we progress through this new adventure...

You are so right flwoobie. I keep telling myself this will be totally different than when I was 19 going to college and feeling completely overwhelmed. I have a lot of life experience behind me now and a great support system.

Yes, let's keep in touch. When do your classes start? Mine start in August but I go in June for registration and to discuss financial aid, etc. Have you done that part yet?
