Started nursing when I turned 27 yrs. old

I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself to the board. My name is Julie. I'm a fulltime nursing assistant at a long term care and rehabilitation facility in Medina Ohio. I absolutely adore my job! First and foremost I am a proud mom of 3 little girls. Since finding nursing about 2 1/2 yrs. ago after divorcing my husband. (Can you believe I ran a restaurant for 10 yrs.?) I have found my true calling in life and now cannot wait to go to school this fall to persue my LPN degree. I am proud to make such a difference in people lives that I touch and bring such true smiles to their faces every day! I've never been a church going person or a person to spread the word of God, but one thing I always tell my residents that keeps them going strong and it helps me out every day too is "God gives you nothing that you cannot handle." and "Tomorrow is a new day." I've never been so happy since I have found my calling in nursing, I'm just sorry it took so long for me to get here!!

CONGRATULATIONS!! On you decision to further you career into nursing. You sound as if you truly will enjoy this type of work. By always providing loving care for your patients, you will find it a very rewarding career indeed. Like you, I managed restaurants for 12 years before I decided to become a nurse - at the ripe old age of 38. During those years of school I also remarried and had a new little son. He is 15 now - my how the years have flown. When I started out in school I was determined to be a trauma junkie, ER, air ambulance, I was after all the fast action - but I think the Lord had a different plan when I turned around and I was in LTC. With all the experience of a newborn, I became a DON for a brand new nursing home 18 months after graduation. It must have been a good fit as I stayed in that same NH 12 years as DON and 'grew up' as a nurse along with it. Now I am Director of a Home Health Agency and learning the details of a whole new world. One thing about nursing - you never stop learning.
Good Luck to you - it will be the most rewarding world of opportunity for you. Keep reminding yourself: God never gives you anymore than you (& he) can handle together.
