Saying hello

Following a suggestion, I'm posting a hello note. Here goes:

My name's Craig, and I'm an alum of Barry University in Miami Shores, FL. I've been practicing since 2002. I've done ER exclusively since graduating, and I've recently joined the ranks of travel nurses. I'm planning on sticking to the travel nurse route for a few years, then I will transition to ICU for my eventual application to grad school.

I'm a big fan of acute care, trauma, fast paced environments. I like large tertiary care academic institutions, but I've developed an affinity for small, rural hospitals since they can provide the broadest experience.

I like travel, since I'm unmarried and have no kids, so I'd like to 'scratch that itch' for travel while I can, experience cities that I can't afford to live in (!) and enjoy myself. Now, as long as I can save a little money while I'm at it, things will be perfect.

One more thing: everywhere I've been, I'm always the resident techno-geek. I'm a big fan of using technology to make my job easier. I'm never without my PDA/smartphone, using my drug guide/IV mixture calculator and looking up pathophys on the fly. I enjoy helping people discover the benefits of technology.

So, with that said, I look forward to posting on here and helping out where I can (in the true spirit of a nurse!). I'm looking forward to learing new things here.

-Craig J.
