Hi, I have been an ADN nurse for 25 years and last year I returned to school to get my BSN through the University of Phoenix. I am a seasoned nurse who due to an accident found for the past two years being unable to work. This proved to be a blessing in disguise as it resulted in my realizing that I love nursing and while I see many problems facing us that at this time in my life with further education I hope to be a positive force by mentoring and teaching those coming into the profession. So God willing I will finish my BSN next year and proceed toward my MSN. My commitement as also given my son at 27 motivation to go to nursing school and he will enter LPN school this year with plans to continue until he is a nurse practitioner.
Yes we have many problems in our health care today and it is all the more reason we need prepared nurses who are willing to continue to learn and grow to be a positive force in chaning the face of nursing. Until I began the BSN program I was one of those nurses that always said I took the same board what is the big deal, but I am learning it is a big deal and now I realize how very important furthering our education is, it is the way for us to be really heard and recognized as the professionals we are.

No, in fact I was just beginning my day in class I am currently taking a Nursing research class, and boy the work.
My accident led to a shoulder surgery in May 2004, First total knee replacement right knee in Sept. 2004 and second total knee on left knee in January 2005. During all of which I continued taking classes, with three short LOA's in the early days of recovery. Thankfully I am all fixed and I pray no more surgery's ever. And I hope to be ready to return to work by July. The journey has been a blessing though in so many ways, one of the biggest giving me the time and the courage and determination to return to school to gain advanced degrees of which I have wanted for many years, but kept letting to many things get in the way of doing it.

Sounds like you've been through the ringer.

Good luck in research. I'm taking it this summer. I'm not looking forward to it.
