PACU nursing and intro

Hello, everyone! I just discovered this site, and I'm finding it very fun and interesting to see the thoughts and opinions of nurses from all over. A little about me: I am a BSN trained RN for 4 1/2 years, working in Florida in PACU. I was wondering why there isn't a PACU specialty board. I know there are a lot of us out there! How to get one started? Anyone else interested?

I work some PACU time too and I wondered the same thing. Perhaps we want to keep the PACU our own little secret! It's the only unit in our hosptital where there's a waiting list to get in!

Hello,

I am looking into different fields of nursing. I've done med-surg for a year and a half. What do PACU nurses do?

PACU nurses care for patients fresh from the OR - post anesthesia. It's a speciality that requires critical care training, Usually it takes a patient about an hour or two to "recover" from anesthesia for they are then transfered to the floor.

That's the short, simplified version.
