Question new to site - any chicagoland area nurses?

Hi all,
Im entering my second year in a Master's entry to nursing practice program. These types of programs are kind of new, but I like it a lot. It is hard because my past education is in biology and we had no training in healthcare. But so far everything is going well. I have a question for any chicagoland area nurses...I have heard a lot of different things about the hospitals in the area...in your opinion which would you reccommend to work at for a new grad? I am not sure what area I am going to work in yet, I am interested in L&D and OR. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

welcome to allnurses!! well let's see..university of chicago has a level 3 NICU and l&d. they are a trauma I or II center (i always get those levels mixed up) which means they have very high acuity. UIC and of course cook county are level I trauma. i think its good to work at these hospitals because you will see EVERYTHING and they are research hospitals so you learn a lot. but if you want to work in a good suburb hospital try edwards in naperville, hinsdale hospital, macneal in berwyn (in the "suburb" but very city like) good sams and lagrange in lagrange park. loyola (in maywood) is top notch for education, especially NP's. loyola reimburses well for masters also and they have on site classrooms too. overall chicago is the place to be for healthcare. pay isn't too bad either. good luck with your search!
