New RN and very nervous on the job.

Hi everyone,
I just took my NCLEX exam on the first of August and passed!!! Yay!!!! I am very happy but now I find myself very nervous almost terrified at work. I started working in a local hospital as a GN and now as an RN. It is wonderful to find a site where one is able to talk to someone that perhaps has been through the same boat and know that you are not the only one going through mixed feelings. I was able to talk to CristaRN and she gave me some great advise. I just hope that in six months or so I will feel different.

hello congratulations on passing, it will take time for you to feel comfortable, I for one would be worried if you weren't feeling nervous. you aren't expected to know everything when you graduate, and nurses with 20 plus experience still ask one another for opinions and assistance. IF in doubt always ask, find a few nurses on your unit that you feel comfortable with and go to them when you have questions. No question is dumb it is better to error on the side of caution then to do something that could harm. You will do fine.

Welcome to allnurses! Congratulations on passing your boards and getting your first job!

The first year is sometimes difficult, and I think it's normal to feel scared and nervous. Just take things slowly, and don't be too hard on yourself! Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions of your co-workers - they understand that you're still learning.

Good Luck!!
