Just introducing myself and sending initial greetings. Looking forward to exchanges regarding Parish Nursing (or Congregational Health) and retirement as a nurse.

Hello RiredMSN. Greetings. I too am recently retired. Earlier than I planned.
Would love to chat about the joys of retirement and how to keep active. I applied for Parish Nurse and would like to know a little more about the position.
My major area of nursing was home health and management. I am new to the allnurses.com too, as of yesterday. Welcome to the group.
I know my "actions speak louder than words!"

Hello Chuckie44, Thanks for the welcome. I was also in home health...30 years.
11 yrs. before retiring, I read an article in Journal of Christian Nursing about Parish Nursing & knew that's what I wanted to do eventually. Had to retire before finding time to begin developing program in our church & have had fun doing it. Very rewarding, does take a lot of time & lots of organization. Don't know I could be doing it as effectively without home health background. Suggestion: Read everything you can get your hands on, help start a program in your own church (I have an Action Plan used as a model now in my denomination), then get the Parish Nurse Training. Position may be volunteer initially, but you can always write for a grant to get started. Go for it! This is the time. RetiredMSN
