I am new to group and pleased to be here

Hello Group,

My name is Shelley. I am a registered nurse, life care planner located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I am working to get established as a life care planner in private practice, but I am finding this to be more difficult than I imagined. I am looking forward to participating in this group, and would like to be of assistance in any way I can.

Question Thank you to all

Thank you for welcoming me. This comes at a very good time because I am feeling a little discouraged, and on the verge of giving up and going back to work for a vendor.

It has been my dream for 8 years to work for myself so that I can do the work I find rewarding, and feel that I am providing a good product, regardless of "billable hours". I also dream of doing the work I love, and to be able to balance the other parts of my life as well.

I am finding this to be a little more difficult than I anticipated. I have been a nurse for 26 years, but I have no experience marketing. I have read several good books, and I think I have put together a good plan, it is just difficult to keep at it every day, when I have had very little response.

On Friday I had a job offer from a company I used to work for. They are trying to build their LNC, Cost Reserve, LCP product. Initially, I would be doing more case management, and less file review or life care planning, @ a low salary for this industry. Part of me would like to escape from the pressure I feel about marketing, and have a steady income again, but the other part of me wants to stick to my dream and see it through. If I could only be confident that I will be successful, it would be easier, but my confidence is shaky. Fortunately, I have a very supportive husband who encourages me to stick with it, but I feel a responsibility to contribute to our income, because it is hard to ask my family to make sacrifices (even minor ones) because I am taking this risk.

Knowing that you are all out there being successful, helps me to start over on Monday, and keep plugging along! Thanks for being there!

Wish you all the best, and I agree with your husband, stick with it. Starting out on a new venture can often be a little discouraging to begin with, but for every door that closes another opens.
Marketing is never easy, it comes face to face with alot of rejection, but every positive that comes along makes it worthwhile and gives you the incentive to go on.
Hang in there, things will get better
