I just recently joined and want to give a big Missouri "Hi y'all!" to everyone. I am the poster child for non-traditional students. I am 53 years old and have just matriculated. I begin nursing classes in the spring. I admit, I am a late bloomer. I married at 16, had my first child just before I turned 20. At 42 I decided I wanted to do something besides wait tables, got my GED and went on to get a degree in Computer Information systems, which at that time was the field screaming for more techs.Naturally, by the time I graduated, every Tom, Dick and Harry had the same idea and there were more techs than jobs. The only job I could find was in a Urology office doing front desk and insurance, but I found I really enjoyed working in health care. That was 7 years ago and in that time I have done rural Medicaid billing for 10 rural health clinics in our hospital system and worked 2 years as a Clinic Manager. I feel I really found my niche. I just wished I'd found it when I was a lot younger. I work full time and go to school. I know it will be a challenge when I get into clinicals, but I feel it will be worth it. Glad to have found this site. I know there are lots of experience gals here who will be a wealth of information for us newbies.

Hello and Welcome to Allnurses.com
Great to have you with us. I, too, am associated with a rural health clinic (in another state). The only NP employed with 6 physicians and 26 other employees.
Enjoy the forums.

Suebird, I am attending Cox College of Nursing, but work for a different hospital district.
Today I enrolled for the spring semester, which won't be too bad with my work schedule. Fall term is another matter. I don't know how I'm goint to do it and work full time, too. But I feel called to do this and am sure it will all work out somehow.
