Hi everyone! New nurse here...

Hey all!

I stumbled across this site the other night at work while it was freakishly quiet in the ER around 1am... there seem to be some fabulous people, great stories, and wonderful advice floating around this forum!

My name is DeAnna, and I graduated with my BSN in May. I have been working in a level II trauma center ER since the beginning of June, and passed my NCLEX-RN in July. I just came off orientation a couple weeks ago, and although I'm still a nervous wreck sometimes, I feel better and better each time I go into work

I hope to get to know everyone on the board a little better and to continue reading about people's experiences in the world of nursing. Thanks for reading!

Hi DeAnna congratulations on passing the NCLEX and your job in the ER. Wow you are having a great ride at the moment aren't you?
Enjoy your work and learn all you can. It is ok to feel like a nervous wreck but as you have found out it does get easier with each passing shift.
Nice to meet you and welcome to allnurses

Re: Hi everyone! New nurse here...

Hi DeAnn! I just passed my NCLEX and would like to work in an ER. I am trained in Finland and have some ER experience there during my nursing college years. Would you please be so kind and describe to me what an average day looks like in the ER you are working at. What special skills are required from nurses working in an ER here?
thank you so much!

Hi Charlotta! Ah, to describe an average day in the ER... hmm... well I don't believe there is such a thing! Different people come in with all sorts of crazy things every day, but I have to say the skills I use most (and need most practice with!) are IV placement, administering IV and IM medications, inserting NG tubes, interpreting monitors/EKGs, and calming people down who don't want to be waiting so long!

Good luck to you and hopefully we will see you in an ER here in the states soon!
