Hi Everyone

Hi Guys!
I'm new to the site and I'm a new nurse period. I just graduated from LPN school in June of '06. I plan on getting higher nursing education. Is it worth the extra year for the BSN or is RN all you really need. I appreciate any input from the more experienced. Thanks a bunch!

Re: Hi Everyone

Good luck to you.

You're "only" 19, so I would venture to say unless you win the lottery, inherit some money, or marry rich, you might be looking at a long career ahead of you.

It's worth it to get the BSN because it affords you more job opportunities, for instance in research, management, education, pharmaceutical companies, case management, safety, etc. Most of these jobs are "BSN preferred/required".

Who knows what you're going to want to do 25 years from now. You might think you don't want any of those jobs but after 25 years of running up and down the hallways of a hospital working like a dog you might change your mind. Or you might find yourself like me 47 years old back in school. LOL

Good luck!
