hi from cyprus

Just a quick introduction, my name is Louise, I am british but now living in cyprus. I found this site as I was looking for a refresher course. I haven't nursed in about 10 yrs but after sending in my c.v to an agency they picked up on my previous nursing. Apparently you don't need to be registered in britain though need a nursing degree to work here. I really would like to do a refresher couse so if anyone knows of a good one I'd appreciate hearing from you.

cheers
Louise

Re: hi from cyprus

Welcome to Allnurses.com.

I would check out the specifics of what is required for licensure in Cyprus, such as language requirements, etc. And you should be required to write the exam for the country. Plus, I do not know if you are on a visa that permits you to work.

The US actually doesn't require a license in the home country, but a completed set of transcripts where your schooling meets the requirements of this country. So, it is not different from many other countries.

For refresher programs, I prefer hands-on courses, that is where you will get the best experience. If you want to just do a review on your own, then I would recommend the Saunder's Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN. It will give you excellent information.

Re: hi from cyprus

Hi, many thanks for the info. I didn't actually apply to nurse in cyprus but obviously it is on my c.v. An agency picked up on it & apparently you don't have to be registered in the u.k but have to have your degree. You can then register in cyprus. They are also willing to do the paperwork. My main concern is that I haven't worked in the profession for almost 10 yrs & will have forgotten so much & be behind in lots of new things. though I have tried to keep up to date.
I haven't been able to find out about any refresher courses in cyprus which is why I tried online. I'll keep looking though.
You don't need a visa to work in cyprus if you are from an E.U. country & there are a lot of private hospitals which employ english only speaking staff so i'm told. I am trying to learn greek though as think thats only fair.
Many thanks
Louise

Re: hi from cyprus

Don't you still need to take their licensing exam? Anyone from there would need to take the one in the UK.

Every country that I know of requires an exam from their nursing board and in their language. Even if they have English speaking hospitals there.

Re: hi from cyprus

I must apologize, I am so used to dealing with nurses from the US who wish to work overseas, or those that wish to work in the US. As a citizen of a E.U. country, you can work in any of the countries.

I'm not sure yet. Nothing has been mentioned but as soon as I get into the agency & find out I'll post all the details. I'd def need a refresher course if i have to have an exam though lol.
Thanks very much for the book suggested earlier. I hunted it down last night & will sort out a copy a.s.ap.

Thanks also for the warm reception. So nice to find a forum where people say hi.

cheers
Louise
