Wink Hey Im NEW!

hello Im Brea. I am currently attending school at Southwestern College in San Diego. Im 22 and I really don't know if I want to become an RN and go to Maric or get a BSN and go to a University. I'm leaning towards the the BSN, but what's the difference? Do nurses with the BSN make wayyy more money than an RN with no BSN? Can someone plllease give me some insight? - Brea

Re: Hey Im NEW!

Well..it depends on your career goals. Do you want to go into management..if so you need a BSN. I have a BS in psychology and an Associate in Nursing. I have no desire to get another BS. You can do just as well with an Associates as a BSN if you want to work at the bedside. And you have time to go back if you want. But whatever you decide..good luck and welcome!!

Re: Hey Im NEW!

Welcome.

Do a search and you will find tons of discussion about the BSN.

Coming out of nursing school BSN and ADN nurses are on equal footing in that they both take NCLEX RN to become RNs and start out at the same level of experience and salary, although some hospitals pay a token differential for the BSN.

The BSN comes in handy down the line if you ever decide to do something else like teach, manager, work for a drug company, research, etc. etc.

ADNs have a lot of opportunity for money and advancement, but the BSN has an edge in the long run so get it while you can.

Good luck and welcome!
