Hello. I'm new here!

Hello future coworkers!

I am 40 years old and in my local community college for the ADN program for my RN. I intend on going on for my BSN or MSN degree thereafter. I have been married to my wonderful sweetie for 18 years and we have two children, ages 10 & 14. My oldest, Emily, was a premie and was only 2 lbs and 4 oz. She was in a NICU for a couple of weeks and the on to a stepdown unit to feed and grow. She is beautiful and healthy and in all advanced classes.

All of the jobs I've ever held outside of my home have been in a hospital. I was a nurses aid, a registration clerk, and a data processor. When my daughter was in the NICU, I was very inspired by the NICU nurses and said that if I ever had the opportunity to get a career for myself, that's what I'd like to do.

Well, that opportunity has come. I am in my 2nd semester of prenursing courses. I have a 4.0 GPA so far. I even got an A in Micro and it was so hard for me being out of school for 20 years. I LOVE school. I wish I had not waited all these years!!! Oh, anyways, I've still got time to make a difference right?

Can anyone here please tell me what I can expect on the NET which I will be taking in November at my school. A fellow classmate gave me a NET study guide by David Frost, but the students say that it is only helpful to a small degree.

Any info you can provide is much appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome! It's nice to meet you. Good luck with your studies, it sounds like you have the experience to make a great nurse. You've see it from all different angles!

I don't know anything about the NET, I didn't take it. But I have seen several posts/threads regarding it.

I think it's a nursing enterance test that they use these days along with all the interviews, papers, and other hoops that they make poor students jump through!!

Net

Yes, it stands for Nursing Entrance Test. From what I've been told and researched these days, it's a basic assessment test on fairly general math, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisition, fractions, percents, and solving for X. In addition, reading speed and comprehension are given a great deal of weight in this test, as reading and comprehension are key to whether you are successful or not.

They use the final score to determine if you are a good candidate for nursing school. You can take general and prenursing courses all day long, but if your score is not good on the NET, you will not be admitted to the nursing core program.

Thanks. We had to take a test similar at the community college. Basically, everyone had to take one, and then they put you in remedial courses if you needed it. Depending on the program you were place in various other classes like Math if you needed it for your program. Fortunately my nursing program was first come first serve when you qualified, no interviews or hoops. But that was a long time ago, I'm sure it's changed since then.
