Hi, I am a 24yr old student from chicago Illinois. I have been in the BSN program for 2 semesters now, and will be graduating next spring. I am having problems dealing with one of my teachers. She has been very unprofessional and rude to most of the class. The sad part is that she was not always like this, and up till recently everyone liked her. She is leaving her job as an educator for our school at the end of the semester, which in 2 weeks but she is making our lifes unbearable. Some students are even considering changing majors b/c of her. Any suggestions??

I have arranged to have a meeting with the dean and some of the other students that are having problems. Our dean is new, but she is aware of what has been going on. The worst part is that my instructor and I have really been disagreeing about a lot of things. She will not listen, and the only way I can express my feelings to her is by yelling at her in emails. The situation has gotten way out of hand, but at least there are only two weeks left in the semester. Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with her, I have an A in the class, and I am really afraid that she is going to change my grade b/c we haven't been getting along.

First of all, I can tell you as a nursing professor, do not under any circumstances, yell at her in your emails. It's very unprofessional and gives her adequate reason to flunk you and possibly get you booted out of the program. It's not fair, but that's how it works.


Number two, if you have an A in the class, she can't flunk you if she has no evidence. You have to document up the wazoo at the time, no gundecking. So if she hasn't documented yet, you're safe. So don't give her anymore ammunition.

Thirdly, I hate to say it, but usually the admin is going to be on the side of the teacher, no matter how many complaints they receive. There's only two more weeks in the semester and she's leaving. Just bite the bullet and tough it out. She'd have to move heaven and earth at this point to fail you and frankly, she probably doesn't have the energy unless you force her.

I know this is not the advice you want to hear, but it's most likely going to get you through the next two weeks intact. Good luck.

Don't give up! I was a nursing student for 2 years before changing my major to psychology. I let my evil, rude nursing professor get to me. She one time wrote on my exam, "How do you expect to be a good nurse when all you do is guess all the time"! My second semester, sophmore years I became very unmotivated! In fact I got 2 d's in my nursing classes and 2 a's in my other non nursing classes. I started to lose an interest in nursing because I didn't want to face her anymore. Now it's been 3 years since I graduated and I've had dead end jobs that required 40+ hours per week. I'm going back to nursing school...hopefully I'll get in. I want to get into a fast track program at Rush or West Sub. I'm a little nervous...but believe me...you will regret if you change your major if you let someone else discourage you!

Things are much better now, we had a meeting on Friday morning and worked some things out. I 'm hanging in there, and we are going to meet again on Tuesday. Hopefully it all works out. Thanks for the support and advice.
