Hello

Hello all,

good to find a website like this one for tips and advice.
I am married to an RN, BSN currently working for Duke. She is not so much of a computer freak like I am so I am the one using this forum to ask you guys a couple of questions.
Duke is on the road to be a magnet hospital (they hope so) but today Duke made official (to the management) that they will stop paying up to 90% of the tuition fees for nurses going for their MSN at Duke. Instead they will give 5000 dollars a year at the end of the studies before tax. So it means that instead of having to pay 10% of 30000 dollars they will give you 3000 dollars tax free. We came to NC and Duke so she could get her masters paid for. Now they changed the rules and just after the magnet people came. When Duke tried to recruit my wife they used it and they used it as a tool with the magnet people because Duke does not pay as good as other hospitals. New nurse makes arround 20 dollars an hour going up by 1 buck after a year. So they got rid off one clear good benefit and it sucks because now we will have to go somewhere else. So my question is does anybody know where they offer decent MSN programs at a reasonable price and/or with good tuition reimbursement?

Thank you for your time.

Re: Hello

Welcome to Allnurses. There's probably other more appropriate forums to ask this question. This forum is for introductions.

Good luck in finding some answers.

That really sucks about Duke. They like their manager's to have masters and are big on CNS's, etc. and are only shooting themselves in the foot because in the future they will have to lower their standards.

Master's programs are quite expensive no matter where you go. But they are cheaper at state school, rather than private schools like Duke. Most of the places around here only offer $2000-$3000 per year tuition reimbursement.
