Gripped With Fear and Anxiety. HELP
|
|
Hi everyone,
I am new to the site. I call myself Miss Determination, because that is how I consider myself. I get blinkered and gallop full speed ahead over and around all obstacles.
Actually at the moment I am a nervous wreck, suffering from the anxiety of making a career change. I am planning to enter the nursing career because there are so many other opportunities in which I can serve and commit myself.
Currently, I am a trained Kindergarten Teacher and I believe that after teaching for the past 20 years I have what it takes to continue to love, care for and nurture the health and well being of children. I would like to become a pediatric nurse but would be satisfied being a school nurse.
Current obstacle to tackle, my family would have to relocate with me to study in Nursing school. I am married with two children 7 and 3years. Anyone that can advise me on such a stressful move please do so because I am gripped with fear and anxiety!

Thanks for responding.
Raindreamer your quote speaks to me as a teacher and also as a prospective nurse. Two caring and loving professions.
Future RN Jess I read your posts on a lot of the sites. Good Luck to you too.

Miss Determination-
I have three kids 7,4, and 8 months. My wife and I are both RNs. I had completed my BSN beforer I married my wife. She actually did her ADN and had our first child at the same time, alot of late nights for both of us. I did straight nights so she could go to school during the day and I could watch our son, yes after working all night. When she went to complete her BSN, we had our second son, again alot of late nights. Now she is working on her MSN as a Midwife and I am getting ready to start on my MSN for the ER in the Fall. We are living proof that it can be done. However, it does take DETERMINATION and alot of family support, but if we can do it, so can you.
As for being a Kindergarden Teacher and transferring to a PEDS RN, be careful what you wish for. Healthy kids will light up your life and making sick kids well will do the same. Keep in mind, sick kids are VERY tough on your emotions. I work in the ER and working on kids is the toughest thing I have to do some times. Just remember, even love and caring can't cure them all, but being there for them, good, bad or otherwise, is what being a nurse is about. Just my .02 cents. Good luck to you and your decision.
LT Dan

Thank you DanznRN for your advice,I am determined to do this and I figured that I could not possibly be the first to attempt the nursing program with obstacles. So it is great to hear of the experiences of others then my overwhelming burdens may begin to lighten up.
 Thank you
