I am getting ready to start my second year of nursing school (RN program) on Aug. 28th at a college in Western New York. I am so excited, but at the same time extremely anxious and scared! Even so, I am so glad that an LPN friend of mine mentioned this site to me; I can see there are others in a similar position and even more that have been through this. Reading the posts has been very enlightening and many of my initial questions have already been answered! Thank you!!!
A little bit about me... I am 27 years old and got married recently. No children yet (my husband and my dog are a handful as it is!) I've been going to school part time for the last four years, and have all of my pre reqs done. I can't see doing it any other way, to be honest, and doing well in nursing also. It's nearly impossible to juggle the time constraints.
I admit I am an academic perfectionist in the sense that I don't settle for a 'C'. I strive for that 'A' and will do what it takes to get it. After all, if you're going to do something, do it right! However, this philosophy only applies to my grades, and I will usually slack on housework and take shortcuts to save more time for study! And yes, I have a weakness for coffee all day, every day, but ironically it gave me the strength to make it through the first year!
My goal after getting my RN license is to go work in a Critical Care Unit, and continue my education in an RN to MSN program with the intention of becoming an NP, and eventually a CRNA.
All the posts I have read so far have been very enlightening and informative. I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts and experiences with the Allnurses community!
There's nothing wrong in striving for A's. I do that myself. As long as it doesn't take over and cause you to loose yourself and keep things in perspective. My live has been just fine with my 3.8.
Hey I am from Buffalo, I dont live there anymore but welcome to the site. I have been a nurse for 1yr. Do your best in school it is not like regular classes you have to study differently and the tests are not the same. Just do your best and when you get out strive to be an A nurse and no will care what you did in school.
Best of luck
