Hey, all y'all, newb, here. Due to the nature of the industry I had previously been employed in (skilled labor being replaced with pre-produced junk, etc), I've been given a great opportunity to switch careers at the ripe old age of 50. Our local hospital likes to "homegrow" their nurses, and they offer nurse schooling for "free," with the agreement that you'll work for them for x number of hours to "pay it off" (or you can "buy" your way out, I suppose....but I digress - I look at it as "job security," of sorts, something that's been lacking in my previous profession, at least since we moved on down south here).
SO, here I am, a new member, having just completed my 8th day of LPN classes, and really looking fwd to starting a whole new exciting career.......things will be a lil tight financially for the next 11 months, but my wife is an RVT (Registered Vascular ultrasound Tech), so we'll be alright.
Another thing I'm looking fwd to is, upon beginning employment at the hospital, it's close enough that I can commute to work by bicycle, something I've always been a big proponent of.....even moreso, given the cost of fuel these days.....
I'm sure I'll be talking to yous guys in the days/weeks/months/years ahead.....
