getting started in nursing

Hello
I am new to this site, & recent events have led me down the possibilty of getting in to the career of nursing. I have an A.S degree in paramedics (1986 state cert. expired) & an duel AS in fitness technology and fitness management.
I have been involved in the prevention side of health care as a instructor, & for the last 7 years I have been working for blue cross blue shield in customer service & training department.

I recently had my position eliminated & would like any advice from professionals on how I may consider getting started in the nursing career?
Thanks John

Re: getting started in nursing

Hi - sorry to hear of your job loss. Start by looking at schools in your area. You will need to decide if you want to do a 2-, 3-, or 4-year program. It all depends on what you want to pursue. If you want to go into management or advanced practice, I would say go for the BSN program in your area. We need more men in the nursing field and I know you will be an asset. Perhaps the ED would be in your future since you were a paramedic at one point. Good luck and if I can help, please let me know.

Best wishes to you. I hope you find the site helpful.

Some states accept Excelsior College's Paramedic to RN program. Check out Excelsior College which is an online program. There are several students taking the LPN to RN EC program in the Distance Learning Program, and perhaps a few paramedics as well.

Otherwise, I would see an advisor at your local school.
