Question Canadian Nurses

I am an LVN living in Ft. Worth and may need to relocate to Toronto to care for my mother. Anyone out there know if an LVN/LPN from the United States can practice in Canada and what would be involved in transferring license?

Re: Canadian Nurses

Your one year program will not be accepted in Toronto. Their program is now two years for the LPN, and four years for the RN. The provinces in Canada have different requirements, Toronto has moved to the the longer time for the qualifications.

You will also have immigration issues, no visa will be available for you to work there with the LPN. Same thing for Canadian LPNs that wish to work in the US. If your mother is there, not sure if you hold a Canadian passposrt or not, if son, then you would be okay in that respect, but then you would have to make up the other year of schooling first before being able to sit for your exam there.

You actually do not transfer your license, you would need to apply for Canadian licensure, and take the Canadian exam.

Hope that this helps and good luck to you.

Toronto now has the most stringent requirements for LPNs as well as RNs for licensure. Nothing can be changed about that, unless you want to go back to school.

Are you already legally permitted to work in Canada?
