advice needed whether to stay in nursing

Hello! I am new to this site, it apperars to be a very benneficial resource.
I am in a dillema, which I hope someone could offer some expert or @least, helpful advice.
I became an L.P.N. in 1998, Pa issued me a probationary stus license for three years, due to criminal mischief misdemeanors from long ago. I became well recognized as an excellent and compassionate nurse for the three years that I worked at a small sub-acute hospital, mainly ventilator dependent and various catastrophicaaly ill patients .
I enrolled in a Diploma R.N. program, two months into the program, I lost my L.P.N. lincense due to missing a few Random Urine screens ( six in two years).. I decided to wait when I graduated to address this issue. I graduated in 2003. Was granted to sit for the Boards in 2004. I passed in Mar.'04 the first try.
Well, I gave birth to twin girls in Oct. '04, had two death's in the family in ,04 as well. My girls are my GLORY! and make all other worries and troubles small.
I have been on several interviews, @local hospital's and even a nursing home, no one will hire me, ( I am on probation again for the first probation violation until 2007, I plan to petition sooner)I presume, do to the stipulations involved ie. cannot pass narcotics for a period of six mo.'s, can't work in iCU, Critical Care (where I wanted to gain experience), Home Care etc.etc..
I sometimes forget I 'm a nurse, until I look @ my portfolio with all my acomplishments, I have a Basic Critical Care certificate and ACLS and numerous CE's.and alot of beautiful letters of reccommendations from superiors, colleagues and co- workers.
Should I give this up? My heart is in nursing, but where is the realality of it? I need the experience of being a R.N..
Any advice out there? Thanks.

Don't give up

I wish I could give you some expert advice, but I am not familiar with all the laws concerning your situation. You have worked very hard to become an RN. Keep searching for whatever avenues may be open to you. Don't give up on being a nurse. Keep looking at your portfolio and reread all those recommendation letters, obviously the people who wrote them believe that you are a good nurse. Keep applying and reapplying to hospitals and nursing homes. DON'T GIVE UP ON SOMETHING YOU WORKED HARD FOR.

My advice is yes hang in there. I went through a similar situation, I had failed to follow documentation rules (MARS), but mine was a probated/restricted license. Must have a RN in house to work (LPN), I very nearly gave up as no one wanted/could hire me due to the restriction. I had always worked LTC. I know you probly don't want to hear this but try LTC facilities. The work there is very rewarding, the little old people really do love and appreciate the staff that help them. Good Luck. And yes I did get a job finally and have been there for a year and love it.

Thank you for your encouragement, it is really much appreciated. My girls keep me very busy, they are my special blessings. I will try and direct some time to re- persuing employment options again.
God Bless You!

Thank you for your encouragement, you seem to of had a similar problem. It gets quite discouraging @ times.
I will keep trying.
Although my circumstances, are so darn lengthy! I get tired of explaining it.
Thank you again, and may God Bless You!

wjunec, I don't doubt you've been busy with twins. Enjoy your double blessing.
TWINS RULE, half of a set myself. Best of luck with everything.
