Anyone do Neonatal or Pediatric Transport?

Hi all,

I'm interested in eventually doing neonatal/peds air transport once I graduate from NP school.... are any of you doing that now? Care to elaborate?

Re: Anyone do Neonatal or Pediatric Transport?

Im only a student, but at my peds clinicals here in St. Petersburg, Florida we toured the helopad for Bayflite (All Children's Hospital and Bayfront Medical Center). It was AMAZING! They do not take emergent calls, but transport from the scene, hosp to hosp, etc. They have a pilot, Medic, Physician, and Nurse on board the chopper and a team of EMT, Nurse, and Paramedic on the vehicle. They can transport premies from 23wks gestation to 18yo. They advised us that at least 5 years ICU experience is necessary as wells as CCRN, ACLS, and PALS.

It might not seem like it, but its a very dangerous job. We had a chopper crash here in Tampa a few years ago and a team of 4 were killed. Very sad

Re: Anyone do Neonatal or Pediatric Transport?

Currently I am neo/peds flight rn. I have training in NICU., PICU PED ED and high risk obs, plus the list of national certification programs including ACLS, PALS, NRP, ATLS, BTLS, STABLE Cardiac STABLE, RNC Neo, CCRN Ped crit Care, and Advanced Airway course, it is an intensive, rigorous path, but definately worth it. Re: Anyone do Neonatal or Pediatric Transport?

After 18 years in the NICU and 4 years of neonatal transport, I started doing Children's Transport. We take 23 wks to 18years. Best job I ever had. We do ground and RW. Never boring and very satisfying.
Good luck!
