I cannot believe your son took your pills knowing they are for your illness and those pills are your life-support for relieving your pain. From this point on, you need to take full responsibilities by purchasing a safe box for 19.99 at walmart, call the police and explain the situation, and/or throw him out of the house, and if he is under 18 than I would teach him a hard lesson and report it, and by law they cannot dispense any more narcotics to you untill the next thirty days. Therefore, it is your responsibilities to make sure your medication is in a safe and you are the only one having the medication.

I have had patients with similar experiences. One caregiver of my hospice patient had morphine cassettes locked in a safe in her bedroom and wore key around neck tucked in bra.

1. Who is prescribing your demerol? Family doctor or pain specialist? Do you have a written contract with pain specialist that states what to do to obtain replacement meds?
Most pain centers will not issue a replacement prescription without a police report. Even if you choice not to prosecute, filing a report is necessary.

2. Notify your prescriber immediately in the AM re your situation to get their advice how they want to proceed. Worst case scenario, go to local ER.

P.S.: Demerol is not the best drug for long term pain management. There are many other meds with less side effects, especially for fibromyalgia.

I realize you love your son, but you are not doing him any favor by protecting him from the natural consequences of his actions. I would report him to the police immediately, regardless of his age, the same as you would if anyone else had stolen your medication. What he has done is a very serious crime.

Also, if you (and your belongings) cannot be safe with him in your home, maybe you need to think about not allowing him in your home until you know that the situation will not reoccur.

I have to weigh in with everyone else:

1. Your son needs to be arrested and charged with theft. Demerol is a big product on the streets...what is he doing with the money btw?

2. Explain the above incident to your primary care provider - in my area, they usually give you one chance and will refill early. If you show the arrest record, that will lend credence to your claim.

3. See a pain specialist. Demerol is not the drug of choice for chronic pain.
