ARE THERE LVNs IN THE PAIN MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENTS. IF SO, WHAT RESPONSIBILITIES? CAN A LVN MONITOR A PAIN PATIENT AFTER THE PROCEDURE IF RN SUPERVISES THE LVN?

I am a LPN in a pain clinic. I do not work in the procedure room, but will monitor and discharge patients after they are out of procedure. My responsibilties include taking history, explaining procedures, starting an occasional IV, going over controlled substance treatment agreements and urine drug screens. The only tasks that I don't do that an RN does is sedate patients, work in the procedure room and phone nursing.

I'm an LVN in a pain management clinic. I work pre-op putting in IVs (with an IV cert), and I also work in recovery taking out the IVs, charting, and making sure they are ok to leave. The only thing I don't do is push the abx if they need them prior to sx.
I'm enjoying learning a new specialty.

The thing that scares me most about pain management is I'm realizing how many people are out there driving around on narcotics!!!

I just started working at a pain clinic, and with the exception of giving out narcotic samples, initial patient assesments and some of the more complicated and intricate OR assisting, I do everything my RN does.
I assist the dr in the OR for minimally invasive spinal and joint procedures, I run the C-arm, set up sterile trays, document meds used and transfer pts to recovery. I'm also very aware of my legal limitations as an LPN, and for my own license and that of my boss I am hyper cautious if I think I might be overstepping. I've never believed in not asking if Im not sure, and my RN is very supportive. Its a challenging and interesting speciality and I'm proud to be a part of our team.
