Re: Fibro

Although I'm not in nursing yet and haven't had to work the long shifts, I did do my phlebotomy internship last spring at the hospital and thought I would die by the end of the day because my legs hurt so bad. I was out of shape at the time and got winded just going up/down a flight of stairs. Since I've started exercising regularly it's helped my fibro tremendously. I also take flexeril at bedtime to help all the muscles recover from the day. Drinking lots of water also seems to help. In the past I've also done physical therapy and massage (hmmm...may have to do that one again for no reason!) Anything that takes care of your body helps. For me, sleep, eating well, and exercise seem to be the most important. Also, I started Cymbalta for depression in November and it has helped my chronic pain (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) and fibromyalgia as well. It is approved for diabetic peripheral neuropathy but has helped me with the other things.
Good luck and I'm anxious to hear what anyone else has to say...

Re: Fibro

Please note: Medical treatments/therapy may not be recommended here at allnurses.com. We do welcome NON-medical suggestions, helpful hints and tips. But, I would ask members refrain from discussing medical opinion/suggestions and specific medications and urge the original poster see her personal physician/health care provider for medical ideas/suggestions to help.

But here are some sites for you to check out for help in the meantime:

http://www.fibrohugs.com/

I am so sorry you are suffering. I wish you the best!

Re: Fibro

Hi! I have fibromyalgia, and it used to overwhelm me with the pain and fatigue. Then I found a great doctor, and over the past 3 years my pain has come under control gradually... it is based on guaifenisin therapy. My doctor's website is www.drgatell.com and it basically outlines the treatment there. He's in Atlanta, but there is a lot of great info on there even if you can't personally see him.

I can't go into the treatment further d/t TOS, but PM me if you like!

Lori
