Exclamation Georgetown University Hospital

Any information about this hospital? I'm in the Philippines and GUH will be my employer in a few years. What are my expectation in Washington, DC? The cost/ standard of living there?

Your viewpoints will be very much appreciated!

Re: Georgetown University Hospital

Hi, I've worked at Georgetown 4 years ago through an agency. They're a really good hospital. They have Magnet status which means they have a high standard for nursing excellence. They pay well and I'm sure you'll make friends. They have a lot of Filipino nurses as most hospitals in DC, VA , and NY do. The cost of living is high in Wash DC maybe you could live in Southern Maryland or Northern Virginia. Try to network to meet people before you go. Good luck to you.

Jennifer

Thanks very much for the post and for the tips!

Hmmm... high cost of living you say? How about the people who live there? How are they like? I'm sorry, I don't have the slightest idea what kind of place I'm going to in a few years time.

Re: Georgetown University Hospital

hi, i worked at georgetown last year as a traveler for about 4 months. i was in the operating room and i thought the staff was really helpful and welcoming. the managers actually paid attention to staff. dc, as well as virginia have a pretty high cost of living. some of the filipino nurses i worked with told me that georgetown actually helped them find apartments that were affordable and close to the hospital. the neighborhood is great, but if you're not in the hospital's housing, it's very expensive. i'm sure you'll love dc. it's extremely diverse.

Nayeli- Apply to the DC nursing board. Google search for District of Columbia board of nursing for info. If you are a local, then get two passport photos and physically go down there. You get quicker service and all the paperwork is in one place, (so they can't tell you that you forgot something ) Once you have your DC license, NEVER let it expire.
