Marshall University Nursing Program

Hi, I am getting ready to start nursing school there in August. I am pretty excited. Can anyone tell me how the nursing program is there. I have heard it is a great program! Thanks.

Re: Marshall University Nursing Program

Are you in the BSN program or the ASN co-op with St. Mary's?

Re: Marshall University Nursing Program

Hello, I will be going into my senior year in the BSN program at Marshall and the best advice I can give you is to be prepared to give up 4 years of your life. You will eat and breathe nursing. We started out with 102 students in my class and we are now around 45 students. If you can stay away from the parties and stay focused on your nursing classes you will be fine. Do not expect this to be easier than Microbiology and your anatomy classes, nursing courses are way harder. You will do a lot of critical thinking which makes sense since you will have lives in your hands. Your family will not see much of you. While your friends are having a good time you will be hitting the books hard. I am not trying to scare you but I am being truthful. Make sure this is the field you want to go into because in your junior year you will be very disappointed in the choice you have made. I see it everyday. You will jump through many hoops to reach the mark. You will realize the weeding out process never really ends which is shown by the number of students who have dropped out or failed out (102 to 45). It is real rewarding and you will learn to be a nurse while learning how to establish responsibility for yourself and others.
Good Luck

Great post Gospel. Nursing school is no picnic, but it is worth the effort.

Thanks Gospel for all the advice. I am quitting my job in Aug. right before school starts. I was afraid I couldn't work full time and go to school full time and make good grades. I know that this program will be tough, but I am willing to do it. I also know it takes alot of hard work and dedication. I have been a medical assistant for the past 6 years and I know that nursing is the field I want to study. Again thanks for all the advice.

Well I am not graduating this May it will be next May. I have 1 yr left after this semester. Me and my wife are both in the program. The PDA I'm guessing is the Palm PC? If so I would hold off on getting this because the nursing program at Marshall is thinking about making you buy one. Which means, it will be one of their choice. They are considiering this instead of buying books, therefore you will download books to this little thing. I would hate to see you buy one and then Marshall make you buy one of their choice. Otherwise I would say buy it because it would probably be very helpful in clinicals with drugs and so forth. Hope this helps

Re: Marshall University Nursing Program

Thanks gospel for the info. I had heard that about the PDA's at Marshall. I guess I will ask my advisor when I meet with her. I am just really nervous about starting nursing school in August. I am quiting my job right before school starts because I heard that the program was to tough for someone to work and go to school. I just hope that I can survive! Again thanks for all the info.
