Hey gang! I have a dilemma and need some help. I have been and ER nurse for fourteen years and for the most part have really loved it. It has suited my personality well, which I suppose tells you a lot about me if you have worked in ER too! The problem is that this job I have loved so much for so long is really not the same any more. It makes me so sad to think about leaving, but I am afraid that my cynisism prevents me from being the kind of nurse I want to be and have been in the past. So..... where do ER nurses go after the ER and find the same kind of fulfillment? Thanks guys, I know this is kind of a downer, I just needed your imput.

What about EMS? Or...ICU? Or...nursing education? Or...nursing management?? High tech home care? I'm an ED RN too and love my job, but when its time to move, its time to move...good luck..

I dont know about anyone else but I go to the golf course

Have you thought about the OR? You still get the traumas, you can get back to caring for one patient at a time, and still enjoy learning new things all of the time. And you usually don't have to deal with crazy visitors, etc.

:hatparty: Correctional nursing- It's been my favorite job. No family members breathing down your back. You also can pass meds faster because you know where your inmates are usually located. Plus most inmates are drug-seekers and so they willingly take their pills. You don't have to spend so much time trying to convince them to take certain pills that are good for them. It's not like a nursing home where you have to run around all shift trying to locate your patients.Good luck

wow! good question, I wish I knew the answer. In our unit a lot of the nurses who have been around 15+ years are going to Oncology and Same Day Surgery. Good Luck with whatever you choose to do.
