Exactly my friend!!!

This particular person kept saying...

Why are they taking that old guy first...he's gonna die anyway!

(Her boyfriend...presenting with abd pain, for two months.)

I had only been in the ED a short time at that point...you learn mighty fast though!

Would you like to sign your AMA form now?

Talk about wanting to just tell someone to get the hell out. People forget that they will soon be old like that to and hopefully they will not get sick all the time. I love the ED so much but I really hate some people. I understand that people mare nervous and dont know what the hell is going on, but come on. I remember that I had this 11/f c/o n/v and I felt bad because she was vomiting alot, everone in the world was either having an asthma attack or a heartattack, it was so busy I had no where to put her. Her mother thought that it would be a good idea to sit her right by the entrance doors, thinking that would get her in faster. I had to tell her numerous times to please move your daughter away from the door. Finally after 2 hours and calling me numerous names, I brought them back. Her mother was still cussing me out when I left and went back up to triage. I think it was like 2 weeks later and was working part time teaching a medical assisting program, can you belive that her mother was one of my new students. HAHAHAHA You know the first thing I said was people make sure that you always respect each other, we all know that people dont like to be treated badly when they are doing thier job This is the kind of thing that happens when you live in a small town

Well, boo-hoo-hoo, baby.

Here is where the nurse says, "let me help you get dressed sir" while thinking "don't let the door hit you in the a**!"

Heard a good one today...

One of our FF...
Today's visit was the 4th this week (it IS only Friday!)...
Son (20 something) has had 30 visits in 2 months...
Mom has had 14 ...

Mom was in today...came in for HA...given Motrin and Phenrgan...
OHHHHH MY she was NOT happy!
She gets discharged and says...
"I'm waiting until 830 when the next doctor comes in."

Now...how does she know the shift change times? I mean 830 is not your usual shift change time.

So the doc comes out and say...NO doctor here is going to give you narcotics! God Bless Him!

Soooo...does she leave?

No...sonny boy says..."I'm having a migraine. Will the doctor give ME the narcotics?"

You have GOT to be shi**ing me!!!!!

Geez, have they got guts or what? Honestly, I think some of these people think we are stupid. We have FF's who come in and before they sit down to wait to be triaged, ask what doc is working. If it is one who wont give narcs they go ahead and leave!!

I could see how some "lay" people would be offended by our comments..... but hey.......sometimes you gotta laugh or go completely insane. We had a double drowning yesterday........17 yr old trying to save, died. Another elderly female with spontaneous splenic artery rupture was flown out to a level one. It is impossible not to be rather callous when asked by someone in the er for a sore throat "why is this taking so long? I've been here for THREE HOURS!".

I told her............we've been trying to comfort the family of a 17 year old, who died trying to save the life of a young woman. (HIPPA be damned!!!!!)

Her response........a meek "oh, I',m sorry"...........

How about the agressive, intoxicated, early 20 something male brought in by PD. Placed in four points. When asked to give urine, says yes if we undo his hands...obviously not, but I will assist you in directing yourself to the urinal. After digging through several layers of clothes, getting Mr. Happy in position, and telling him to go ahead, he looks up at me and asks me if I'll play with it?!? After another round of this...and 3 liters of fluid, he tells me he ain't giving a sample and there's nothing I can do about it! Well, much to his dismay, you should never say that to a cranky old ER nurse going into hour 13. He learned that if the base of the penis is held in a tight enough grip, all bucking will cease so as not to rip said member off at the root. And BTW...urine sample WILL be be given...lol
