Size Matters, 6fr vs 8.5fr Cortis

Quick technical question, is there any danger in using a 5fr pacer in a 8.5fr cortis? The reason I ask is that currently most of the cortises (percutaneous sheath inducer catheters) on our unit are 6fr which means that no triple lumen and no swan. One nurse that works is ICU at our hospital says that there is a danger of air embolus in using the 8.5 and a 5fr pacer, and I disagree but have no facts.

Input from anyone?

I know that if you use an 8fr sheath, and float a 5 fr pacer, you may have an issue of leaking, so in theory if it can leak air may get in.
