Has anyone tried the Pure Tone Stethoscopes. I've heard that they are good and I can get a discount on one but I'm wondering if it will be any better than my Littman master classic. I can't hear very well from my Littman and I'm not sure why. Does anyone have any suggestions or know anything about PureTone?

I haven't heard anything about those, but I thought I would tell you that I have alwasy loved my LIttman Master Cardiology. It is fantastic!!!!

I think with any stethoscope the bigger and badder the better your sound.

I think those are ones that I saw on the internet.......have to have AA batteries in them and cost almost $200? I was wondering if they are worth the $ also.

The one I am looking at is about $75-80. I played with it a little. It seems like it has a stiffer, thicker tubing. It is amazing when they drop a small bit of kleenex on it and show how clear/loud the sound is projected. The sound seemed good.

It also has very comfy ear pieces and "microbial resistant" covers for whatever that is worth. (I know that you can add those pieces on to any stethoscope.)

I'm getting one and trying it anyway. I like new toys anyway. I'll let you all know if it is any good.

This is the stethoscope that I just got - the PureTone with the antimicrobial SafeSEALS. So far so good...I bought it at a store run by a retired RN. She and I both compared it to the Littman and agreed that the sound on the PureTone was better. And it's a soft, colorful rubbery seal over the diaphragm and bell that is resistant to bacteria!

I bought a DRG PureTone Stethoscope while in grad school for NP 3 years ago. I was also working in the ED at the time. The stethoscope lived up to its claim of better acoustic quality. However, the eartips need adjusting to get a better sound. Also, the gel filled eartips started leaking after a while because the rubber degrades and starts developing tears. I have since gone back to using Littman.

We use on our 911 based squad both, most do like the pure tone, the littman is my personal preference. If you have problems with littman's it would be worth a try. EMS and Nurses conferences often have vendors that let you test both.

I was "talked into" buying a Pure tone stethescope a couple of years ago--I wouln"t get another one if they gave it to me. When I questioned the representative the next year regarding its poor quality, he told me I "probably didn't know how to use it properly"!!!
