Orientation to Triage

We are trying to implement a guideline for orientation to triage. Currently we cover CTSA during orientation to the ED, and everyone triages EMS patients at the bedside, but being IN triage is different. After about 6 months in our ED we send everyone through a triage "class" with the educator, Triage First as available, and then 4 hour stints with a preceptor in triage. After approximately 4 shifts in triage we send them, by themselves, to triage during the least busy times. When they are comfortable with that, and we are comfortable with them, we send them at busier. There must be a more organized way to do this. Could you share your process? Thank you!

Re: Orientation to Triage

Your method sounds pretty well organized to me. It's similar to what we do in our ER.

Re: Orientation to Triage

Your method sounds much, much better than the training given at my ER!
