Within the last year our ED has lost many (30) tenure RNs due to managements inability to support us. I stay only because I carry the family's insurance which is cheap compared to what we would pay if hubby carried ours. I dropped down to 2 eights a week too. Luckily, my husbands job afford me the ability to do that. Anyway, we were told we were not allowed to even say the word Exodus and they take offense to us talking about it with each other. The nurses that have left, many of them say they would remain on a casual basis, but management refuses. Instead they have a legal pad full of dates available to pick up. (They also refuse overtime until you have worked 40 hours) They are just making things worse in my opinion. Now, the hospital has hired this committee to look into the departures of so many nurses......they hand picked nurses to attend the meeting thinking they wouldn't open their mouths...hahahahaha....Management doesn't have a clue...

No, unfortunately, I am not one of the hand picked....And I know why!..lol I have always had the ability to speak my mind when necessary or when asked for my opinion, I give it. They wouldn't want me in on that committee. I don't need the job, I work because I love being a nurse. If I wasn't such a hard worker I am certain they would have made it difficult for me and I would have left right along with my fellow tenure nurses. They call here daily wanting me to pick up time. I finally said yesterday, don't bother to call, I will only pick up for my fellow nurses if they need me.

Hey TraumaNurse, I know exactly what you mean. I worked on a progressive care unit with a high RN turnover. Most would stay a year, see how terrible it was then leave. I left in January and after me, a few more left and I have no idea why administration is just letting this happen. But whatever, I know I'm at a better place now and much happier.

Hospitals should be REQUIRED to report and post their nurse turnover rate for all the world to see. I sure as heck wouldn't go to one with an excessively high rate.

Apparently HR does not do exit interviews or the nurses did not tell the true on said interviews. That or the nurses went to other departments and avoided one all together. Put all that together and just sounds like a facility in general that I would not want to work at, otherwise there would be no way 30 nurses would have been allowed to leave one unit in a relatively short period of time without some sort of change at the top.

Update: The Manager announced her departrue this past Friday and the co-manager announced her relocation plans a few days prior. Huge changes to come we hear. This is all good news for the nursing staff rumor has it.....We'll see

I am so happy that something good is going to happen for you! When I read your post I thought you were talking about the ER I work in. Everyone quit, they call me 3 times a day to come in to work. I heard they are planning to form a group for " ER nurses retention". I think they should form new management!
